The Scientific Guide to Global Warming Skepticism
Posted on 8 December 2010 by John Cook
Scientific skepticism is healthy. In fact, science by its very nature is skeptical. Genuine skepticism means considering the full body of evidence before coming to a conclusion. However, when you take a close look at arguments expressing climate ‘skepticism’, what you often observe is cherry-picking of pieces of evidence while rejecting any data that don’t fit the desired picture. This isn’t skepticism. It is ignoring facts and the science.

For today's activity, we will complete an interactive tutorial to gain a better understanding of climate factors contributing the the warming of our planet.
- Click Here to get started. You may work with a partner, but every student will need to create an account. Use this Access Code: Finch412. Each of you is responsible to remember your username/password.
- Once everyone has created an account, one of you will sign in and click on the "Run Project" button to the right of Global Climate Change. You can add your team members on the following page.
- I will give a brief tour on the navigation once everyone has signed in, but you will essentially work your way down the list of sections on the left-hand side of the page. You can skip around and go back to previous sections at any time, and you can click on "My Work" at the top of the page to see a summary of all your answers.
If you finish this activity before the rest of the class, you can explore these professional resources:
