COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is an entry-level course covering all aspects of the broadcast and mass media industries. The history of broadcasting and evolution of the technology as well as the techniques used to deliver the broadcast message will be covered. Topics will include: broadcast and no-broadcast television, cable television, radio, sports and movies as an important form of communication. The study of vocabulary, safety, and basic hands-on production skills will be developed and implemented.

COURSE GOALS

By the end of this course, you will:

1. Understand the history of broadcasting and analyze different methods of information dissemination.
2. Understand technical broadcast terms and vocabulary.
3. Develop critical thinking skills and the ability to critically analyze the media and media reported stories.
4. Understand the proper handling and safety issues related to television broadcast equipment.
5. Write and plan a television production.
6. Produce a television show.
