  • This is an advanced level course using computers and video equipment to plan, shoot, and edit video programs. Emphasis is on advanced level scriptwriting, audio techniques, lighting, camera operation and editing. Computers are used as a creative and organizational tool for the purpose of producing high-quality videos. Program styles include documentary, educational, and dramatic video production. Students use field and studio equipment to produce professional-quality video programs.

  • Throughout this class, students will:

    1. Demonstrate entry-level skills in the technical and aesthetic aspects of video production
    2. Demonstrate the use of video production as a means for information, instruction, or entertainment
    3. Determine the production requirements, including schedule and budget, for a video production
    4. Write a script, using the scripting process from treatment to script
    5. Demonstrate the characteristics of different lighting instruments and solve common lighting problems
    6. Demonstrate the fundamental knowledge, skills, and techniques required to assist in producing a studio video production:
      • Plan, shoot, and direct a studio production using cameras, special effects, character generator, and pre-recorded footage
      • Operate video switcher, audio mixer, camera, and related equipment
      • Demonstrate ability to perform as director, floor manager, and studio crew
    7. Develop a storyboard illustrating the program sequence
    8. Demonstrate editing techniques to keep the story flowing visually, creating continuity of action
