COURSE TITLE: Theatre Production and Stagecraft I
GRADE LEVEL: 9 – 12
COURSE LENGTH: One year
CREDIT: 10 units
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: 10 of the ten-unit Fine Arts requirement for graduation.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Theatre Production and Stagecraft I is a one year course designed for students who desire to learn various facets of non- performance and technical theatre production work. The course provides an opportunity for the practical application of the theory, knowledge and skills learned. Students will function as a part of a technical team in planning, implementing, and running the technical aspects of theatrical productions. Students may apply design and technical knowledge to support a school production.
COURSE GOALS: The student will:
1. Understand and apply basic theory, history, knowledge, and skills in various elements of theatre production.
2. Increase self-esteem by providing opportunities for success in creative and diversified thinking.
3. Develop an advanced understanding of the principles of discipline and responsibility inherent in preparing a theatrical production.
4. Develop problem-solving skills in a cooperative, team-building environment.
5. Develop responsibility and independence through the use of basic tools and equipment and the implementation of design and construction.
6. Understand and apply principles of safety when in and around the theatre.
7. Become critical evaluators of production work by attending and reviewing a theatrical production.
8. Students will not use power tools.

- ARTISTIC PERCEPTION
Processing, Analyzing, and Responding to Sensory Information Through the Language and Skills Unique to Theatre.
Students observe their environment and respond, using the elements of theatre. They also observe formal and informal works of theatre, film/video, and electronic media and respond, using the vocabulary of theatre.
Development of the Vocabulary of Theatre

- Use the vocabulary of theatre, such as acting values, style, genre, design, and theme, to describe theatrical experiences.
- CREATIVE EXPRESSION
Creating, Performing, and Participating in Theatre
Students apply processes and skills in acting, directing, designing, and script writing to create formal and informal theatre, film/videos, and electronic media productions and to perform in them.

2.3 Design, produce, or perform scenes or plays from a variety of theatrical periods and styles, including Shakespearean and contemporary realism.
3. HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTENT
Understanding the Historical Contributions and Cultural Dimensions of Theatre
Students analyze the role and development of theatre, film/video, and electronic media in past and present cultures throughout the world, noting diversity as it relates to theatre.
