WHAT IS ROP?
Operatedby the Contra Costa County Office of Education, ROP has been theprimary source of career training for high school students in ourcounty for the past 33 years. State certified teachers, high techequipment and a commitment to students ensure a positive learningexperience. Located on high school campuses, ROP courses are taken aspart of a student’s regular high school schedule. Students advancethrough 90-540 hours of sequenced curriculum and earn high schoolgraduation credits and/or college units. Students can earn Certificatesof Proficiency upon successful completion of the class.
ADVANTAGES OF ROP:
Studentscan use ROP courses to gain employment skills, explore a career field,get a head start on their college major, or “try out’ a career choicethrough internships available in many classes. Many students use theirnewly acquired skills to work part-time after graduation to help paycollege expenses.

Skills students should leave an ROP class with:
- Demonstrate effective skills in oral and written communication.
- Demonstrate job skills and the behavior and work ethic valued by employers.
- Demonstrate the ability to be critical, complex and creative thinkers.
- Work productively both as individuals and as team members.
