If any schools/programs require a letter of recommendation, consult with your recommender well before your letter of recommendation deadline!
Please be sure to VERIFY if a letter of recommendation is required for the school you are applying to. Many schools, including CSU's and UC's very rarely require a letter. Please use link below/verify on the school's website and/or common application:
It is important to complete the attached letter of recommendation form and give your recommender at least two school weeks to write your letter. Weekends and holiday breaks do not count towards the two week minimum.
Please be sure to follow up your letter request with a "thank you" note to your teacher/counselor for the extra time spent on helping you with your college journey!
Below are the required documents:
- Attach a copy of transcript.
- Answer all of the questions in the brag sheet (linked below)
- Include the following information:
o SAT/ACT and SAT Subject scores
o AP Exam Scores
o List of clubs, sports, honors, and activities outside of school
o Work experiences and hobbies
o Courses completed at another campus
Helpful Tips On How to Get A Good Letter Of Rec!
- Fill out the brag sheet with detailed responses
- Ask for the letter IN PERSON and come prepared (brag sheet filled out, organized neatly in manela envelope with your name on it).
- Give information on what clubs/volunteer work/community service you are involved in: ex. What is it? What do you do? How many hours do you spend a week involved with this club? How long/what grade level were you involved in this club/etc.?
- Spell out abbreviations to organizations you are involved with: Ex. HOSA club = Health Occupations Students of America
- Include details of awards earned: ex. What is it? What was it for? How are you selected?
- Remember, the more detail provided to the recommender, the better letter we will be able to write.
- Give your recommender enough time to complete the letter --> teachers and counselors receive a large number of requests for letters, so please respect their time and efforts by abiding by the two week minimum (not including school breaks or weekends).
- Only ask the number of teachers/staff that the school requires. Teachers/staff submit the directly for you and you do not get to read beforehand.
- Remember the letter of recommendation is a request not a demand.
