    Finish Shooting Video

    Hello Video Patriots!

    This weeks assignment is to continue and finish shooting your 30 second project. If you're already done shooting, begin editing your project. If you've finished a rough cut and would like to share it with me for feedback, please email it to me directly or email a link to YouTube if you prefer to upload it that way.

    The video project will be due on May 29th at 3pm.

  • May 11, 2020 Assignment:

    Pick one of your two scripts and begin shooting the project

    Hello Video Patriots, I hope you're all well. So it's now time to pick the script you like most from this 4th quarter and begin shooting it at home. You're not expected to finish shooting it by this week as I know this may difficult for some of you. So aim to shoot half of the script by next Monday. 

    Also, if you're having difficulty finding a camera to use email so we can try to figure it out together. Oh and do NOT shoot the project with anyone outside of your household. Meaning, do not meet a neighbor or friend to make your project. Just use either yourself, sibling, parents, or person who is also sheltering with your household.

    Lastly, write a brief email telling me

    1. Which project you chose to make.

    2. What are you using for a camera.

    3. What do you plan to use to edit.

    4. How much you shot by the end of the week.

    As always email me prior if you have any questions or concerns.

    Write the script for your PSA 

    Hello Video Patriots!

    This week’s assignment is to write the script for the PSA concept you just wrote last week. Try to write your script as if you planned to shoot it at home. After this week we’re going to begin shooting one of the scripts you wrote during the fourth quarter for your final project. So if you like your PSA concept more than your Commercial concept, then definitely write it as if you’re going to shoot it at home. Again, this week’s assignment is just to write the script. As always email me if you have any questions.

    Write a PSA Concept

    Hello Video Patriots! This weeks assignment as some of you already know is to write a concept for a PSA. Just like the PSA we did in the first semester, your concept must be a real issue and you must be able to cite a legitamate source at the end of your PSA concept where someone can find more information about your issue.

    The PSA formula we used and will use for this assignment is to: 1. show the problem, 2. show a way someone can solve the problem, 3. and lastly show the results of solving the problem.
     
    For instance, I always use Recycling as an example of a PSA:
     
    So my concept would start with two students walking and one of the students throws his can of soda in the garbage. His friend stops him and tells him how he should recycle because it helps reduce waste and thus can help reduce climate change by not having to create new aluminum every time someone buys a soda can.  Next we see the same friends on a different day and the once again one is drinking a soda. When he finishes he puts the can in a recycle bin and his friend looks impressed. We then see stock footage of a dirty beach with cans and bottles everywhere. A Voice-Over explains how not recycling also hurts the environment as soda cans, plastic bottles, and glass don't bio-degrade quickly. We then see another stock footage shot of the same beach cleaned and without recyclables. A title card pops up with the website: www.recycle.org. A Voice-Over says, "For more information on recycling visit: www.recycle.org"
     
    Please do not use recycling as your concept. Type your concept in the regular concept format we've done all year and make sure you end on what locations you would shoot this concept at. So try to come up with a concept you could possibly shoot at home.
     
    Lastly, make sure your name and period are on the concept as some of you have email addresses that don't easily identify you.

  • April 20, 2020 Assignment:

    This week is "catch up week."

    What does that mean? For some of you it means catching up with the first two weeks of work. I understand these are unusual times, and thus I want to give those of you who are not caught up a chance to turn in unfinished work. So if you haven't finished the first two assignments please email them to me ASAP so I can give you feedback and get you back on track.

    If you are caught up and already  turned in both assignments then you have options.

    Option #1: You can redo a written assignment from the 3rd quarter for a better grade.

    Option #2: You can get ahead and start writing a concept for a PSA.

  • April 13, 2020 Assignment:

    Commercial Script

    Hello Video Patriots,

    This week's assignment, as most you know already, is to write the script for the Commercial Concept you turned in.

    I highly reccommend you use Celtx, the websoftware we've used all year, to write your script. However, it's not required. You can use Google docs, Word, etc. 

    Just do your best to formatt the script into the dual column formatt we learned at the start of the school year.

    Again please email me your assignment by next Monday morning (04-20-20). Also, the sooner your submit your assignment, the quicker I can provide feedback on your work. But again, it's not due until next Monday.

  • April 6, 2020 Assignment:

    Commercial Concept

    Hello Video Patriots!

    This assignment is to write a 4 - 8 sentence concept for a new product you create yourself. What is the product? What does it do? And then, like we did 1st semester, write a concept for a commercial using the formula we learned. The formula for our commercials is to: 1. introduce a problem, 2. solve that problem with your product, and 3. show the results of solving that problem.  

    This is an individual assignment, not a group assignment. So all students must write their own concept. Also, remember, you must create a new product. Do not simply write a commercial for your favorite soda, shoes, or cell phone. 

    Have fun with the concept. It doesn't have to be a realisitc product. It could be something silly like the gum  and spray commercials we did. For instance, "Instant Irish Accent Gum" or the "Enjoy Exercise Spray."

    Make sure you include the locations of where you would shoot this commercial, if were able to shoot on our school's campus or your home.
