Finish Editing and Turn in your Video.

    Hello Filmmaker Patriots!

This weeks assignment is to finish editing your SIP Yearbook video. Please turn it in to me by either uploading it to YouTube and sending me a link to your unlisted video, or email it directly to me. However email will seriously degrade the quality so I encourage you to use YouTube, DropBox, or Google Drive for the best video quailty.

Editors/Directors of the short film. Your final cut is due as well. Please submit it to me the same as the SIP videos.

All videos are due by May 29th at 3pm.

Lastly, I want to thank you all for taking this class. We were robbed of the full experience of this class, but it didn't rob me of seeing how talented and charasmatic people you all are. I hope you seniors who are graduating will keep in touch, and I hope you all leave having a deeper appreciation for filmmaking and good storytelling.

Take care everyone and May the Force Be With You!

Begin shooting your SIP Yearbook Video

    Hello Filmmaking Patriots!

I hope you're all well. So if you haven't already begun its time to start shooting your SIP Yearbook video. If you don't want to do a SIP Yearbook video you need to make sure I've approved your alternate video project. If I haven't emailed you then reach out to me so I can approve the concept and you can begin.

I don't expect you to shoot all the footage by the end of this week. However, I do want you email by Monday of next week telling me:

    1. What are you shooting with

    2. What did you shoot specificlly (interviews, b-roll, zoom meetings, etc.)

    3. What are you planning to edit with

4 If you're "partnering" with one person, what is each person doing this week.

Editors of the short film. You must schedule a Zoom meet with me to show me your progress by no later than Wednesday May 13th. I need to give you feedback on what you've done or haven't done. I'm hoping for the former.

As always email any questions or concerns. I plan to hold office hours today at 12pm. I'd very much like to see more of you there. Email if you did not recieve the Zoom invite.

    Take care!

    -Mr. Guardado

    Catch up Week!

Hello Filmmaking Patriots! This week is going to be a catch up week. Meaning a lot of people have not turned in their Shelter In Place Yearbook Video Concept, and I assume some people will not turn in their paragraph critiquing their two teacher videos they watched. Therefore, this is your week to catch up on these two assignments.

For those of you already caught up you can reach out to me about how you plan to go about making your SIP Yearbook video, or if you’d like to propose an alternative video assignment. The SIP Yearbook Video will eventually become your Final, so if you don’t want to do a SIP Yearbook video, or think you can do a good one then I’m open to your suggestion for an alternative video assignment.

I will be holding a Zoom meeting for this class Tuesday May 5th at 12pm – 1:25pm. Email if you’d like to join and ask any questions or get caught up with your classmates.

May the 4th Be With You!

Critique Your Teachers Video Skills :)

    Hello Filmmaking Patriots!

So I need time to go over the SIP Yearbook concepts, so this weeks assignment should be fun and give me time to make sure the SIP video can actually be done based on concepts turned in.

Therefore, your assignment is to watch any two Virtual Senior Banquet Message videos (the unedited ones) and 1. leave a compliment for the teacher and 2. write me a paragraph critiquing what the teacher could have done to improve the quality of the video and or audio. So you might want to pick two videos that clearly had some issues, however, I encourage you to pick teachers you have/had.

The videos can be found on the Patriot Productions YouTube channel. Oh and my video is not one of the teachers you can pick for the assignment. However, if you'd like to critique it anyways for a small amount of extra credit I'm open to that.

Lastly, short film editors you do NOT have to do this assignment as your week's assignment is to continue editing and then give me an update on your progress either Friday of this week (May 1st) or Monday of next week (May 4th). Your update can either be a Zoom meeting or a written detailed paragraph. Please contact me what you decide editors.

    Forward!

Edit Short Film/Write a Shelter in Place Yearbook Video Concept

    Hello Filmmaking Patriots!

So this weeks assignment is split between editors/directors of the short film and everyone else.

Those of you who checked out an iMac from me last week your assignment is to continue editing the short film. Try to edit for at least an hour and a half for the week. If you want to edit more than that, that's ok. Just don't neglect your other school work. Also, collaborate with your Director. What does that mean? Call, text, email, with them so you two are on the same page with one another. Use the list you turned in today (4/20 insert joke here).

The rest of you are going to write a concept for a shelter in place yearbook video. I want you to try and turn the situation into a yearbook video. What does your daily weekday routine look like? How are you keeping in touch with your school friends? What's it like to learn via Zoom sessions? So come up with a way to turn this into a Video Yearbook project "Shelter In Place Edition." Write a paragraph describing what you want to do to show this once in a century situation and how you would shoot/edit it. Be sure to tell me in the concept if you have a camera/iphone/smart phone/PC/Mac/ to be able to actually turn this into a video or not. Lastly you may pair up with one person in the class, as I can forsee you guys sharing videos with one another digitally, so for instance one person can shoot the video, and the other could edit it.

Email any questions and get creative!

    Modified Film List

    Hello Filmmakers!

I hope you all are continue to be well and safe.

This weeks assignment will be to use the list made for last weeks assignment, to look over your existing footage and determine what can be done and what can be modified to make your film as close to your goal as possible (again without shooting new footage).

So essentially your modifying the list you gave me last week, and now listing the things you know you can do to make your film as close to finish as possible. Again this is a group assignment, so I only need one list from each group. Please communicate amongst your groupmates so that no group submits no more than one modified list.

I will be on campus this Wednesday April 15th from 10am to 12pm. With Mrs. Wells approval, I hope to check out iMacs and/or your hard drives so that either your editor or director can continue to edit your films. This will help you do this weeks assignment as you will be able to have your editor look over everything you actually have. But everyone can help. So again communicate to one another, brainstorm ideas on how you can finish your film with the resources you have access to.

Do you have stock footage you can use to help fill in missing shots? Can you write and record a Voice Over track to better narrate the story?

Directors I will be in touch via email to see if you or your editor will be available to come pick up a comptuer and at what time.

As always, please email me any questions or concerns you may have.

    Forward!

    -Mr. G

    Film Wish List

    Hello Filmmakers!

As you can assume, I'm crushed that we won't be having a Video Showcase this school year. However, I don't want you guys to give up on making your films. They all had so much potential that I'm still hoping we have a Video Showcase, but probably not until Fall of next year. Perhaps it can take the place of the Opificer Media Student Film Festival in November. But it really depends on what happens in the coming weeks due to the shelter in place order.

So your first assignment is to write a detailed list of what needs to be done to finish your short film. Write this list with the mentality of doing the bare minimum to get it finished. Yes some groups have more to do than others, but all groups still have a lot of editing and sound designing to finish. So talk to your groupmates and then the editors and directors take all the info and input from the group and write the list out of what it would take to finish the film and have it ready.

Please organize your list as such: Scenes/Shots to reshoot, scenes to re-edit, sound design tasks, scenes to color correct, credits to make, etc.

Lastly, I'm going to try to get Zoom time with each group prior to the due date of April 13th for this assignment. I will attempt to schedule meetings during our normal period time, but this is not a requirement. I just hope to help you guys talk through what your film still needs to get it Showcase ready.

Okay, email me any questions you may have.

    -Mr. G
