Things You Need to Know about the National Honor Society
At Heritage High School
APPLICATIONS AND MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
1) Applications for new members must be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered for eligibility
a) Please be mindful of the two teacher recommendations that are required, and remember to provide 1-2 weeks of notice beforehand
2) Members must participate for a minimum of two (2) years including senior year to graduate with honors
3) Lifetime membership
a) Unless dismissed for GPA, attendance or behavior
b) Students may resign, but resignation is permanent
GPA REQUIREMENTS
1) Students must keep a 3.75 Academic GPA
a) If you drop below a 3.75, you will be put on probation and have one term to bring up your GPA or you will be dismissed from NHS permanently
MONTHLY MEETINGS
1) All meetings are mandatory
a) NHS Meetings are the second Tuesday of every month
b) Members are allowed to miss one meeting per semester. Missing more than one meeting will result with member being placed on probation
SEMESTER PACKETS
1) Packets Are Due at the End of Each Semester
2) New Members Are Required to Complete Five (5) Hours of Community Service and Other Members Are Required to Complete Ten (10) Hours of Community Service
3) All Members Then Must Write an Essay Reflecting Your Hours and Their Impact on Your Community
4) Community Service Time Cards (Where You Will Log Your Service Hours) and Other Additional Information Regarding the Structure of the Essay Can Be Found on Our Page on the Heritage Website
INDUCTION REQUIREMENTS
1) Each member must be Inducted to become an official member
2) Dress to Impress
END OF THE YEAR SERVICE EVENT
1) Towards the end of the school year, members of every grade are expected to participate in a huge service event that we separate by grade levels

- Do I have to reapply to NHS every semester?
- No, once you get accepted, you no longer need to reapply as long as your membership has not been revoked.
- When are meetings?
- We are mandated to have weekly meetings on the second Tuesday of every month.
- Are meetings mandatory?
- In short, yes. You are allowed to miss 1 meeting per semester. If you miss more than one, you will be placed on probation.
