As we look forward to the return of competitive interscholastic athletics during the spring of the 2020-21 school year, we are also taking this opportunity to look back at the first 15 years of the school's athletic history, and recognizing the top 15 moments in those first 15 years, as voted upon by a panel of long-time Heritage coaches and administrators.

This post kicks off the list of those memorable moments which made the final cut, beginning with moment number 15 in the history of Heritage Athletics.

#15 - Boys volleyball downs Irvington to reach NCS Division I semifinals - May 2, 2019

On the heels of back-to-back BVAL titles, the Patriots took it a step further in the 2019 post-season.  After sweeping Clayton Valley in the first round, Heritage earned a home match in the quarterfinals against MVAL champion Irvington.  It was the second meeting between the programs in less than two weeks, with the Patriots having edged the Vikings in an extended tiebreaker in a recent tournament.

Irvington jumped on top early, downing the Patriots 28-26 in the first set, but the rest of the match would belong to Heritage.  Junior Max Sutton dominated with 16 kills, while senior James Townsend and junior Anthony Ford were also hard to stop at the net.  The next three sets all went in the Patriots’ favor, as they defended their home court with a 3-1 victory, claiming 25-15, 25-14 and 25-18 wins in the final three sets.

The end result was the first-ever trip to the NCS Division I semifinals, where they battled eventual champion Amador Valley before falling in four sets.  The team finished the season 29-4 overall, the best record in program history.
