Boys Basketball takes two of three at McKinleyville

The Heritage boys' basketball won two out of three games to finish in third place at the McKinleyville Tip-Off Tournament last weekend.

The Patriots routed Casa Grande, 71-38, in their opening game, getting 17 points from junior John Mackay and 12 points from senior TJ Glasper.  Heritage led 23-5 after one quarter and 43-10 at halftime before cruising to the victory.  Mackay scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half, and Isaiah Hinds added seven points.

Heritage nearly clawed its way back to victory in the semifinals, but after trailing by 12 points with four minutes to go, ended with a 58-55 defeat to unbeaten Lincoln-San Francisco.  Mackay led the Patriots with 13 points, all of them coming in the fourth quarter, while Sebastian Duran chipped in 11 points, going 5-of-7 from the free throw line.  Lamar Murphy contributed eight points in the effort.

The Patriots then secured third place with a 52-38 win over KIPP King-San Lorenzo, evening their overall record at 2-2 in the process.  Duran led the way this time with 15 points, while Mackay scored 12 points, Murphy had 10 points and Brad Ehlen added eight points, including six in the fourth quarter when Heritage secured the victory.

Heritage travels to San Ramon Valley on Tuesday night.
