The Free Application for Federal Student Aid and California Dream Act Application (FAFSA/CADAA) will open November 2024.
The first step in the FAFSA financial aid process is to create an FSA ID for yourself and one for your parent. (This is your electronic signature for all FAFSA forms). You will use this information EVERY YEAR you file the FAFSA so don't lose it!
FAFSA Checklist - Print out BEFORE you start the application process
1. Click here to create an account for FAFSA
2. Click here to create an account for California Dream Act
3. Click "Create an Account"
4. Click Button "I am a student and want to access the FAFSA Form
5. Click on "Create an FSA ID"
6. Click on "Exit FAFSA Form"
7. Click on "Get Started " (Under where it says Create an Account)
When you are done with that...go back to FAFSA.GOV and have your parent create a Parent FSA ID using the exact same process. Except they will click on the Button that states they are a parent filling out a FAFSA form for a student. THEN you can start your FAFSA Application.
Save your FSA ID User Name and Password in a safe place and make sure your parent also saves their FSA ID Username and Password because you will both need them again next year when you do your FAFSA again before March 2, 2026. (And each year after that until you are 24 years old or finished with college)
