Ms. Denise Rugani
Dear LUHSD Community,
As we approach Winter Break, I want to express my gratitude for your support and dedication to our schools and students. This quarter has been filled with numerous achievements and some areas of growth, and your involvement has been instrumental in our success.
With positive student achievement as our ultimate goal, it is wonderful to see that our student attendance district-wide increased by 5% compared to this time last year. Daily attendance is directly correlated with increased student achievement, and we thank you for supporting your student in getting to school each day.
Another highlight this semester was offering our students the opportunity to take the SAT test locally at our school sites in late October. This initiative aimed to reduce the need for travel, increase access and make the testing process more convenient for our students. We had more than 120 students take advantage of this opportunity. We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the SATs again in March at our school sites, providing our current junior students the chance to test in a familiar environment.
Our academic performance, as reflected in the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) scores, showed that while we maintained our scores in English and ranked 3rd in the county, we experienced a decline of about 3% in our math scores. This has provided us with an opportunity to collaborate with our school sites, families, and students. In this light, we are working with a math consultant from Solution Tree who is supporting our math departments as well as we are exploring math software that individualizes interventions for our students. Together, we are committed to implementing strategies to support our students and help them achieve their true potential.
Lastly, our students continue to excel in athletics. LUHSD had an amazing Fall Season. Twenty-two of our fall teams made it to NCS playoffs, including all three of our Flag Football teams, boys water polo, girls golf, and boys and girls cross country teams. This is a tribute to the talent and effort of our athletes and the dedication of our many coaches and volunteers.
I continue to be grateful for your support and the dedication of our students and staff. I wish you and your families a joyful and restful Winter Break. Your continued support and involvement are what make our schools a vibrant and thriving community. I look forward to an exciting and successful second semester together.Denise Rugani
