Water polo teams dominate openers
The Heritage girls and boys water polo teams started the season on the right foot on Tuesday, turning back visiting Clayton Valley for a pair of wins in the Patriots' home pool.
The girls actually got off to a slow start against the visiting Eagles, trailing by three goals early before tying the match headed to the half. From there, however, it was all Heritage, outscoring Clayton Valley 11-2 over the final two quarters to post an 18-9 victory.
Ella Simone had four goals in the win for the Patriots, while Lily Finazzo, Emma Lapum and Kayla Longoria scored three times each. Ella Longoria added a pair in the back of the net.
"It was great to see a balanced scoring effort in our first game, and to see our youth really get some valuable minutes and do some good things," said girls head coach Jeff Lapum.
In the nightcap, it was a different story as the Heritage boys dominated play over the first three quarters, building a nine-goal lead late in the third quarter before cruising to the 13-8 victory.
John Rodrigue and Patrick Aiello scored four times each in the win for the Patriots.
Both teams improved to 1-0 with the victory.
