Welcome to Utler's Class
I am excited for this new 2018-2019 school year. I will be your English teacher, Mr. Utler. It is my job to teach you the information and skills you need to show yourself ready for college-level reading and writing. It is your job to pay attention and push your abilities, even when it's hard. Failure is not the opposite of success; it is often a step towards success. I can work with you when you put your best work forth, even if it isn't perfect. The only person who can stop you from really growing in your abilities this year... is you!
A little about me: this is my third year at Freedom High School and my eighth year as a full-time teacher. I was born and raised in the Bay Area and graduated from College Park High School in Pleasant Hill. My wife and I moved out to Brentwood in 2013, where we live and raise our two kids: Rylee (9) and Landon (2).
I firmly and deeply believe that all students can learn and be successful. I believe a wrong attempted answer is significantly better than "I don't know". I believe mistakes can be forgiven and worked through; defiance is much more difficult. I believe students come from a huge variety of backgrounds and sometimes personal things can hinder our learning. For these reasons, I ask students, families, and friends to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org whenever a problem comes up. I will post lesson plans for students who may be absent so they can return already caught up. I will do what I can to keep Aeries updated with current grades.
I am lucky I have you in my class. I look forward to getting to know you and help you improve your abilities. Welcome back!
