Science Mr. Becker
    Welcome to Mr. Becker's webpages!
I have been a high school Physics and Earth Science teacher and tutor since 1996, possessing teaching credentials in Physics and Earth Science/Geosciences in three states including California. Courses that I have taught include Conceptual Physics, General Physics, Honors Physics, Advanced Placement Physics (both Calculus and non-Calculus based), Advanced Topics in Physics, Introduction to Engineering, Astronomy, Earth Science/Geoscience, Meteorology, Oceanography, Algebra Readiness, Algebra I, Algebra II and Precalculus/Trigonometry.

My undergraduate education was completed at Pennsylvania State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983. After working in the HVAC industry as a consulting engineer, I returned to graduate school at West Chester University to complete my teaching certification in Earth Science and a Master of Education degree in Secondary Education in 1996. I first entered the teaching field in the public school setting, where I worked for four years on the east Coast before relocating to the West Coast and have been working as a high school science and mathematics teacher for the past sixteen years. Outside of the school setting, I have had a proposal accepted by NASA for inclusion of a project that was carried into space aboard space shuttle Endeavor for ten days during mission STS-108 in 2001. I also have organized astronomical star parties to educate interested persons about astronomy and navigating the night sky. Field trips on which I have taken my students include the Chabot Space and Science Center (CA), The Exploratorium (CA), iFly (CA), The Tech Museum (CA), Goddard Space Flight Center (MD), Great America (CA), and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (DC).

One of the reasons that my students are able to benefit so greatly from my teaching style is due to the diversity of work experience that I possess. Aside from having worked as a mechanical engineer in an industrial setting, I also have worked in both the public and independent school settings. Thus, I have a multiplicity of skills to draw upon for identifying appropriate teaching methodologies for engaging students in order to maximize the effectiveness of their learning. I enjoy working with students and being able to help them achieve their maximum potential so that they, too, will experience the excitement and joy of learning to understand the physical workings of the world around us. I very much look forward to being able to help all of my students in achieving success in their academic endeavors!
